Learn how to use Portflossio to manage your portfolio

What is Portflossio?

Portflossio is a professional portfolio tracking application built on the principle of 'Event over State'. Unlike traditional spreadsheets that only store your current holdings, Portflossio records every single economic event (deposits, buys, sells) and derives your portfolio's state from these immutable facts. This ensures absolute accounting-level correctness and complete audibility.

Tracking Capital Events

Capital events represent real money entering or leaving your investment system. This is the only place where 'how much I invested' lives.

Deposit

Fresh external capital entering the system. Use this when you transfer money from your bank account to your brokerage.

Withdrawal

Capital leaving the system. Use this when you transfer money back to your bank account.

Tracking Trading Events

Trading events represent atomic actions of buying or selling assets. Each event consumes or produces cash balance.

Buy

Positive quantity. This records the acquisition of an asset, including fees and taxes. It decreases your cash balance.

Sell

Negative quantity. This records the disposal of an asset. It increases your cash balance and contributes to your realized profit.

Reading the Dashboard

Total Equity

The total value of your portfolio, including both your cash balance and the current market value of all your open positions.

Cash Balance

The amount of liquid cash available in your portfolio. Calculated as: Sum(Capital Events) + Sum(Trade Cash Flows).

External Capital Invested

The net amount of fresh money you have deposited into the system. This is your 'cost basis' for the entire portfolio.

Net Portfolio Result

Your total profit or loss. Calculated as: Total Equity - Net External Capital. It represents the absolute growth of your wealth within the system.

Average Price

The weighted average cost of your current position, including all fees and taxes incurred during acquisition.

Import & Export

Portflossio allows you to easily import and export your capital and trade history using CSV files. This is useful for migrating data from spreadsheets or backing up your records.

Exporting Data

You can export your history by clicking the 'Export' button on the Capital History or Trade History pages. The export will respect any filters you have currently applied (date range, asset, type, etc.).

Importing Data

To import data, click the 'Import' button and upload a CSV file that follows our required format. A detailed guide and example are provided in the import modal.

If you have any questions about how your portfolio is calculated, remember the golden rule: Every number is derived from your events. Check your Capital and Trade history to trace any value.
